Mission

Eighteen Intelligence embraces the mission of freeing people from unnecessary constraints through the development of Internet applications. We do this through the relentless pursuit of truth, independence and joy.

Your success—as you define it—is critical to us.

"Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." Aristotle

Core Values

At the heart of Eighteen Intelligence are four core values.

  • Truth, acquired only through logic and observation
  • Independence, in mind and body
  • Computer automation, applied to everything
  • Joy, included in every pursuit

Natural philosophy, the scientific method, reason—without these values, we cannot survive. Without the truth, there is no clear path to the goals we seek. We perceive the world around us, and we apply logic to understand it. The ideas we use to understand reality are collected by philosophy and science. We respect philosophy as the only way to achieve virtue. We respect psychology as a way to discover inner truths.

To be free from unnecessary constraints is to be free to pursue our values. We seek to be independent in our thinking and our acting. That is, we value deciding for ourselves the truth of the matter. We value being able to chase our dreams rather than filling out paperwork for the tenth time.

Although a means to a end, we value computer science as a end itself. We considered computers cool when when everyone else thought they were for nerds. The programmer extends his consciousness into the world through the code he writes. Through applications, tasks are automated and people are freed to produce the wonders they are meant to create.

Ultimately, we all want to be happy. Often, this pinnacle remains out of view as we focus on a nearer destination. We strive to include joy in every activity. If we can help people forget they are doing hard work, we will introduce humor and game mechanics. If we aren’t having fun, we aren’t doing the right things.

Vision

When we put these core values together, they coalesced into a vision of the future. In this future, people are not constrained by external forces they didn’t choose. They aren’t weighed down by bureaucracy. They aren’t held back by convention. They don’t struggle with user interfaces that seemed to have bubbled up from a puddle of goo. In this future, people make voluntary connections with each other. They work efficiently. They don’t notice the user interfaces.

Purpose

Since values are things we act to acquire, and since we passionately desire to realize our vision, the purpose of our company became clear. We seek to help our customers leverage the power of Internet applications to automate their pursuits. We use existing tools to create new solutions, and we invent the ones that need to exist.
